Recently, in photography class, we were making a poster using 3 or more mediums to show a theme. My multi-media poster's theme was friendship. the mediums i used were water color paint, acrylic paint, ink, some type of paper, and photographs i took with digital my digital camera. the background of my poster is colored blue using water color, and on the special paper i used, i wrote out the individual letters of 'I love My Friends" and lined them with ink, then colored them with water color paints. in the corner, i painted with watercolors a red background over the blue, then painted 2 black shadow figures holding hands, so it looks like the silhouette of 2 friends in front of a sunset. then in the opposite corner, i painted some vines and flowers flowing out from one point with acrylic paint. i attached the words, and in the middle i put photos of me and my friends. also, since it's me and Maria's dream to ride on a unipegasus named Sophia as 'Unipegasus Buddies 4evah", i drew a unipegasus and Maria drew us in chibi form riding on the unipegasus. super epic >:{D

bubbles
In photography class, we started taking pictures of bubbles because, as Rosa puts it, "its fun :D".
bubbles are fun to take pictures with because they are always really colorful, and sometimes you can even get reflections in them, too.
the wind was blowing, so it was kinda hard to get a good shot of the bubbles, so bare with me.
so these bubble photos turned out really cool, and they were pretty fun to take. everyone should try it, its super awesome :D.

for this one, i edited it using cross process, and then i used black and white everywhere exept for on the bubbles |
for this one, i also used cross process. i also cropped it a little, because there was a tree in the pic i didn't like. |
on this one, i just increased the contrast. |
miniatures
this week, we were playing with toys in photography class. we got up close to the toys, tilting the camera up to make the toy look like it is big, and real. we did it in a series of three photographs. so,then, we took pictures from a little farther back. then, from even farther back, to how we would usually look at it, to show that is is actually a toy. here are some of the photos i took.
and here is a different series i took:

mosaic
a Mosaic is a picture that is made of many smaller photos. in photography class, we are making our own mosaics, by drawing a design on paper, the taking photos of the colors we need. after we get all of our photos printed, we will paste them onto our paper and you will be able to see a larger image. while i was at Sakura-con (super awesome) i saw a mosaic of my favorite manga/anime, Kuroshitsuji (translated to Black Butler in english). it was an image of Ciel Phantomhive and Alois Trancy. it was made of really small photos of people, and all of them were cosplayers! it was so cool! my first thought when i saw it was 'OMEGOSH OMEGOSH OMEGOSH I WANT THAT IMMA BUY IT OH NO IT'S 30 DOLLARS!' and my second thoght was 'hey it's like what we are doing in photography..'.
i would put up my own mosaic but its not done yet, but here are some other examples of mosaics:

portraits and lighting
in photography we are learning how to take portraits. the place where you really want to focus on in the face is the eyes. you want them to sparkle, so it looks like they are alive, instead of just looking like dark pools. also, we learned that you should use the rule of thirds (divide the frame into 3 horizontally and vertically, place subjects on the intersections) because that is where the eye naturally travels when looking at a photo.
another thing to consider while taking a portrait is the lighting. where the light is coming from while change how your photograph looks. and when you edit your photos you can change your exposure in case your picture isn't bright enough/too bright.

claymation
we are making some claymation videos, which is taking a bunch of pictures of clay people/ things, each one a little differently positioned, and when you put it all togehter in the end, it looks like they are moving. its pretty awesome.
Rosa and I worked together on ours. it features me (Alyssa), Rosa M., and Alyda S. Alyda is a fish (she likes fish) and we feed her chocolate (she likes chocolate) (i know chocolate is harmful to dogs... is it harmful to fish too? oh well..). and yeah, thats pretty much it, actually. here is a few pictures of our claymation characters.
the family (me, alyda, rosa) |
some very popular claymation artist include Nick Park (Wallace and Gromit), Will Vinton (Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Celebration), and Art Clokey (Gumby). The art of claymation has been dated back to 1897, when plasticine was invented.

Flip Books
In photography class we are making flip books. Flip books are a bunch of pictures that show movement when you flip the pages. the first thing you do is to draw the beginning picture and the ending picture first. Then draw the pictures in between, each one a little different. Then, we put it all together, and it looks like a little movie. Then, i took pictures of each one, put them into windows movie maker, and made a movie out of it. But blog spot is being stupid and it won't let me upload it, so i might put it on Facebook. maybe. ok :)
Edward Muybridge was the first photographer to show motion with photographs. he took 26 photos of a horse running, and each camera was set off by a trip wire that the horse activated while running. he made flip books with a bunch of different animals using that technique, with elephants, cats, etc. Edward Muybridge also made the zeotrope, a device that will show motion by having a bunch of pictures on it that are all a little different, and it spun and it looked like the people in the pictures were moving.
